Behavior Chart

At my school we implement Sean Covey's, "The 7 Habits of Happy Kids".  This year I wanted to change my behavior system based more on this philosopy. I love the habits and it has made a difference in the children and their attitudes at my school. The children take the responsiblity for their own actions.  If you would like to know more, go to my earlier posts on the habits.  You'll be glad you did! :)   I had seen a behavior chart on pinterest that I loved!  So I decided to make mine like this.  You'll have to excuse the pics... I'm not a very good photographer!

I haven't finished my room yet, but I wanted to get a better view of what the chart would look like and if it would work for me and the children.

Here is a closer view!

And this is the bottom half.

I decided I am going to laminate it again for durablilty.  Then I am going to label clothespins with the children's names.  We will all start on Ready to Learn everyday. Then, depending on the behavior have the child move his/her clip up or down.  In the past I did not recognize the children who had a great day visually, but here they get the opportunity to be recognized by moving their clip to Fantastic.  I also listed the habits there in positive terms.  On the page of  Make Better Choices, I decided to remind children of the habits again.... and of course I like to take the time to remind them of what habit they need to practice 1 to 1.  Teacher's choice is where I send a note home or a phone call.   The child may be bounced to another k classroom for timeout.

If you are a Leadership School I have the download of my behavior chart here.  I can also tweek it for you who use other behavior support methods. In the download you will see Phone Call Home, but I decided not to use that part because I think I will use it if I need to in Teacher choice.   What do you think?  I love hearing your comments!

Pam, I came across your site and LOVE all your ideas! I now have the behavior chart hanging in my class ready for the first day. Your labels for notebooks are amazing too, I have told my team about your blog and how great all your ideas are. You have made my year! Thank you for sharing!

That is a great chart and it also goes well with PBIS. This is our first year doing the leadership...any ideas or other sites you have found would be most helpful!!

Pam,

I simply love it! I have seen a number of clip behavior charts on several blogs, but what you have put together is consistent with my teaching philosophy. I have read Stephen Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Effective People and the book has had an impact in my life. I haven't the opportunity to get my hands on the Seven Habits of Happy Kids yet (but will soon).
