Hi Everyone,
It is Meet the Teacher over at blog hoppin' and I thought it would be fun to participate. First, the above picture is not me.... I hate pictures of me but this will do.
A little about me...
1. I have been teaching for a long time.... 20+ years and I still love it very much!
2. I have taught many different grade levels--- 1st, 2nd, 3rd, math, reading, but kindergarten is my favorite.
3. I teach at a high poverty school in North Carolina..... where we are closing achievement gaps... yeap, I work with an amazing group of teachers and administrators.
4. I have my National Boards as an Early Childhood Generalist.
5. I have one daughter who attends NC STATE---Go Pack!
6. I love to blog and to make stuff like classroom games.
7. And I love me some diet Sundrop----it's a southern soda thingie!
8. oh.... I have a cat.... who thinks he is a dog.
One thing I am trying to improve on this year is helping children to become more responsible for their actions.... Can Do Kinders!
I really believe in the book, 7 Habits of Happy Kids and want to implement more
of that philosophy into my teaching this year. How about you? What are some things you want to improve on.
Now enough about me.... I want to know more about you!
I hope you link up here so I can learn more!

Hi Pam,
I'm ~very~ curious about that southern drink, diet Sundrop. Never heard of it! It's not available up here in Maine. Is it sort of like Orange Crush? Anyway, I loved reading a little about you and your class. Love your blog!

First Impressions
Hi Pam,
I am also wondering about Sundrop. But I see that you put down 7 Habits of Happy Kids. I am wanting to implement it in my classroom this year as well. Is your school a Leader In Me School.
What are you doing to implement it?

Ok .... diet sundrop is like mountain dew soda or a citrus/lemon/lime drink... but not as sweet. I'm addicted to it because a cold sundrop in our hot summers is awesome. :)
Theresa, we are a leadership school. I have visited AB Combs and it was amazing! We are in our second year of implementation. First, your teachers have to buy into the program. We read the 7 Habits of Happy Kids to our children and practice those habits one day at a time.... then we choose 1 habit to practice a month. We help the children set goals and use data notebooks where the children graph their progress. In addition, all the children are leaders at our school... some are leaders academically, socially, some in sports, some in art/technology etc. We have them lead our school assembly and help make rules. It is awesome to see how seriously they take on their responsiblities and behavior is changed because they know they are role models. We give out awards but not treats, etc... for the habit they excel in.. Hope this makes sense. You might enjoy seeing my behavior chart I have posted here. I hope this makes sense. Please email me if you need more specific answers.. I'll be glad to help in any way I can.
Thanks for writing this.
